MILLEDGEVILLE, IL -- A man in Milledgeville, Ill. is hoping he built the world's largest teeter totter in his backyard.
The teeter totter sends people 50 feet in the air and it's more than 100 feet long, WHBF reports.
Retired welder Chuck Uhing, 77, started working on it in 2014.
"At first I thought I want to build me a big wind chime, and I looked on the internet, and I found one that was out of my reach," Uhing said. "So I said well, how about a teeter totter?"
His goal is to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records. To do that, Chuck had an engineer out to measure the see saw and two officials to witness him do it, all while his neighbor Norm Deets took photos.
"The two witnesses were here to just to verify that the engineer was here, and that he did it, and so that you know, that nobody could do anything," Deets said.
Chuck said he wants to make it into the book so his legacy lives on.
"My grandkids, great grandkids, someday they'll bring out the book and take it to school and say this is my great-great grandpa that built this thing," Uhing said.
"I think it would be a huge accomplishment for him, and then it's that legacy that goes forward for his family," Deets said.
Chuck said he never could have finished this monumental task without the never-ending support of his family.
"The biggest thing is they didn't say, 'Dad you're nuts, or you're crazy, you're gonna kill yourself.' They just let me do my thing, ya know?" Uhing said.
Now all that's left, is to wait and see if the teeter totter makes it into the Guinness Book of World Records. Guinness said it would let him know in about eight weeks.
