HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend near the Texas Medical Center, is now in Houston.
Austin Birdow was arrested by a Special Violent Offenders Task Force just north of Austin in Round Rock about 24 hours after police said he shot his ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Jacquot,47, several times in a parking lot near the Texas Medical Center. It took the SWAT team in Round Rock to get him to surrender.
Birdow was locked up in the Williamson County jail all weekend, and this morning he was transported back to Houston to face a charge of aggravated assault. According to the investigators, the charge will be upgraded to murder.
"For someone to just come and think that they have the right to take another human's life; that's sad," said neighbor Janet Wolfe.
Wolfe said she has seen Birdow at Jacquot's home, but not recently. Wolfe said Jacquot has been seen on edge and scared.
"When she comes in, she goes in and locks her gate before she gets into that door," said Wolfe. "It is sad. It is sad. And she was a young lady. "
Wolfe, also a former abuse social worker, said she wishes her neighbor would have asked her for help.
Birdow's bond has been set at $300,000. He asked for a reduction. It was denied by the magistrate judge.
Birdow's next court hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
