CYPRESS, TX (KTRK) -- A large fire broke out at in the parking lot of a Cy-Fair Walmart this afternoon, sending thick black smoke billowing into the air. And young kids may have started it.
It happened outside the store on Highway 6 at FM 529.
About 200 pallets were burned in the fire, leaving thousands of dollars in damage in an area where Walmart stores pallets and compressed boxes from its shipments.
Firefighters say the windy conditions today posed a challenge.
Behind it all, we were able to track down a group of kids between the ages of 10 and 13. They admitted they were playing there earlier in the day and said one of them lit the pile of pallets on fire.
An arson investigator now waiting for those kids' parents to come home to talk to them. The kids were apparently caught on video playing out there and starting the fire.
The Walmart store was not evacuated and no one was hurt.
