HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston man is accused of pretending to be a Texas Ranger when he approached a man in a small parking lot in west Houston over the weekend.

Francis Lau, 65, is charged with impersonating a public servant. Investigators say he approached a man in a small parking lot in the 13600 block of Westheimer, saying he was a Texas Ranger conducting an investigation. Lau also reportedly had a badge of some kind.

The victim reportedly became suspicious, called police and started to follow Lau as he left the parking lot.

Police tracked Lau down to an apartment complex in the 14900 block of Richmond, where he was arrested.

Bail is set at $5,000.
