Deputies arrested a driver they say was drag racing before leading them on a high speed chase

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Some East Harris County residents got a rude awakening for Friday morning. A truck on a high-speed chase smashed into their yard.

It all began around 3:30am when two trucks were spotted drag racing on the East Freeway near Dell Dale.

Harris County sheriff deputies chased down one of the two trucks. At times, speeds reach 120 Miles per hour.

The truck exited Normandy and came up to Woodforest. The chase then continued onto Coolwood. That's when it hit a metal street light pole. After crashing into the pole the driver kept going, and then crashed into a fence between two homes. He finally gave up and deputies arrested him.

The commotion woke up Ruby Ratcliff, who was visibly shaken by the chase.

"An officer knocked on the door and told me someone had run through my fence," Ratcliff said. "I came out and looked and I'm just blessed I'm just blessed."

Bradford says she's glad only her fence and her neighbors fence or partially damaged in that nobody else was hurt.

The driver will be charged with felony evading. The truck is a leased vehicle. The driver of the other truck got away.
