High bacteria reported at Galveston West End beaches

GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- If you're heading to the beach this weekend, you may want to avoid Galveston's West End.

All the island's beaches west of Seven Mile Road tested positive for high bacteria levels.

Bacteria levels are lower along the seawall. The beaches there have low or moderate bacteria levels.

Swimming is not recommended on the beaches with high bacteria levels. Most of the contamination comes from fecal matter. The pathogens can lead to infections such as cholera, and hepatitis.
