Community honors firefighter killing in Kingwood blaze
Daniel Groover collapsed inside a house on fire Wednesday and died. Now the community is banding together to honor him and help his family

KINGWOOD, TX -- Friends, family and fellow firefighters are mourning the loss of a fallen hero. Daniel Groover lost his life fighting a house fire in Kingwood Wednesday afternoon. And now, we're learning more about how he is being remembered.

There are still many questions looming right now. The first is why Daniel Groover collapsed. Secondly, did it have anything to do with ammunition that was heard exploding in that burning home.

All day on Thursday, people from were stopping by Fire Station 104 where Groover worked; flowers, balloons, cards and food dropped off for this fire mates, each one offering love and support.

This fire was intense. Two alarms were called. Groover was one of the first to go in. He collapsed and was pulled out by his fellow firefighters.

Late Wednesday night, his body transported from Kingwood to the medical examiner's office. The procession route was lined with hundreds of firefighters paying tribute.

Right now, a big effort is underway by local and state fire marshals. Fire officials said right now, it doesn't appear Groover was hit by any exploding bullets.

A memorial service will be held for Groover this Saturday. The procession will begin at 9am, followed by a service at 10am. The procession will start at College Park High School and will end at the Woodlands Church, Fellowship of the Woodlands Campus main sanctuary.
