HOUSTON -- According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, a robbery suspect is dead after a deputy shot him at least three times during a tense standoff.

It began when deputies responded to an aggravated robbery at the Woodforest Bank on the 12500 block of FM 1960 at 12:30pm in northwest Harris County.

The armed suspect was located on the 13400 block Westland and West Road. A negotiating team was sent out to the scene and attempted to get the suspect to give up peacefully.

Deputies say they fired two rubber balls at the suspect, but he still refused to put down his gun. At about 3 PM, deputies say the suspect raised his weapon at a deputy and verbally threatened him. The deputy shot the suspect at least three times.

The suspect was transported via Life Flight in critical condition where he was later pronounced dead. The suspect hasn't been identified.

Meanwhile, the deputy will be placed on mandatory administrative leave while the HCSO conducts an investigation.
