Flooding catches Woodlands residents by surprise
THE WOODLANDS, TX (KTRK) -- Eric Vipperman never thought his daughter's sidewalk chalk would be used to mark the rising water. But -- then again -- he didn't expect a flood.
"I was washing dishes this morning and happened to look out the window, and was like, 'What in the world is going on?' It got real high last night, and went down and we thought we dodged a bullet."
But for some neighbors, there is no more waiting. The Ramirez family barely got the family pets out before the water rushd in.

"Everything is lost, nothing to save, it's bad," Ramirez said.
Longtime residents say it's not like the Spring Forest neighborhood has never flooded; it's just been a long time. The last time water got into these homes was in 1994, more than 20 years ago.
As the sun faded through the trees,, many families decided to ignore the voluntary evacuations, hoping -- like Vipperman -- to wait out the flood waters from Spring Creek.
"I'm watching, I mean, there's not much we can do just go with the flow. Everything's closed so just sit in the house and wait it out," he added.
