Rising water endangers drivers after storms in SE Texas
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Rising water at several Houston creeks and intersections made for an interesting commute.
Shelly Hovermale had a frightening morning as flood waters surrounded her car.
"I could see that the water was rising and it was rising pretty fast," said Shelley Hovermale.
Shelly was trying to drive down Robert Cemetery Road near 2920 in north Harris County in the dark. Hovermale said she got swept off to the side of the road. She climbed out of the car through the window and waited on the roof. Shelley's husband drove up in his truck to rescue his wife but her car was still stuck.
Shane Campbell was trying to cross the road too about the same time. Campbell was driving his company vehicle and he said he was almost out of the high water when a truck hit him.
"The truck came up on the opposite side of me and he hit me and when he did it just knocked me off," said Shane Campbell.
Both Campbell and Hovermale were stuck until a tow company arrived. They were able to get Campbell out first and then they went after Hovermale's car.
In our exclusive video you can watch below, you see Hovermale's husband and tow truck employees go into the high water to attach the hitch. It took them several tries but in the end, they got the car out. When they open the door, water gushed out of the car.
Campbell and Hovermale are just grateful they're okay.
High water was also reported at Crosstimbers under the Hardy Toll Road, while the National Weather Service issued flood warnings for a number of creeks.

The Little Cypress Creek at Becker Road, and South Mayde Creek near Greenhouse Road were among those affected.
In Waller and other areas across town, wreckers had to pull stranded vehicles from flooded streets.
ABC13 reporter Foti Kallergis says he saw vehicles flooded out, and at Mayde Creek, flood waters rose and then fell again. Water could be seen spilling into nearby Cullen Park.
Fortunately, no homes are threatened by this flooding.
The good news is, and this is from past flooding events here, just as quick as the water rises here it also can go down pretty quickly too.
