Father runs over, kills his toddler son in Magnolia

MAGNOLIA, TX (KTRK) -- A toddler was run over and killed by his own father in Magnolia Saturday night.

Deputies say it was a terrible accident and are warning parents to make sure your child doesn't know how to get out of their car seat.

It happened around 7pm in in the parking lot of the Saw Mill Grill on Nichols Sawmill Road.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says the 2-year-old's father was in the driver's seat.

His parents had already put him in the car and told investigators he was strapped in to his car seat, but police say the child, somehow, managed to escape.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Detective Paul Haas said, "It appears the child was unbuckling the seat and may have been able to get out of the car seat and get behind the vehicle while they were loading the other children."

The father ran over his son.

The little boy was airlifted to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

It's not yet clear if the father will face charges.
