Effort aims to end illegal dumping
Cameras are now helping officials crack down on illegal dumping in Houston and Harris County

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A new watch center is helping to curb the growing and nasty problem of illegal dumping.

Harris County Constable Pct. 1 is getting ready to roll out the operation along with the City of Houston, which helped fund the operation.

More than 60 high-definition cameras have been installed at Houston's most notorious illegal dumping spots. The feeds from those cameras are aggregated in a watch center downtown and recorded on servers. Several big screen TV's allow investigators to watch the dumping sites and suspects live.

Already, the constable's office has made 66 arrests.

"We're watching you," said Constable Alan Rosen. "You think you might be getting away with illegally dumping your debris on the side of the road, but don't be surprised when we come knocking on your door with an arrest warrant arresting you for it."
