A high-speed chase around Houston ended in some fields north of the Heights, and the suspect in custody

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A driver who led police on a high speed chase for nearly an hour has been taken into custody. The pursuit started in La Porte at about 9am. Police were responding to a report of a suspicious person.

There were at least a dozen Houston police units following a dark colored Jeep Cherokee.

The chase went down Highway 225, before moving inside the loop. The driver slowed down while navigating streets through the Heights. In north Houston, just off of Crosstimbers, the driver left the streets and drove through grassy areas and yards. While in a wooded area, one person could be seen jumping out of the vehicle and walking away while talking on a cell phone. Just a few yards away from the vehicle, he was taken down by police and arrested.

No accidents have been reported.
