Driver slams into side of fire engine on SW Fwy
An HFD fire engine was hit while trying to get to the scene of another accident overnight

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Emergency crews are cleaning up after a driver slammed into the side of a HFD fire engine going to the scene of another accident.

The wreck happened on the outbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway near Weslayan around 1:30 this morning.

HFD says the fire truck was making a U-turn so it could go backwards down the entrance ramp to get to the wreck on the feeder road near Cummins.

The lights were flashing but the driver of a Chrysler 300 apparently didn't see them.

That is when firefighters say the driver slammed into the side of the engine.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the wreck and the driver was not intoxicated.

He will be charged, however, for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

The fire truck was also fortunately not damaged and will return to service this morning.
