DPS: Two dead following wreck in Chambers County

BAYTOWN, TX (KTRK) -- Two people are dead following a horrific wreck in Chambers County.

According to Texas DPS, a white Chevy Malibu and a truck tractor collided around 11am on Highway 99 near Kilgore Ave.

Two young women - aged 20 to 30 - in the Malibu were pronounced dead. Another passenger and the truck driver were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.

The wreck happened in a relatively new area and many people just starting to move in. Witnesses say those who drive around here just aren't aware of other cars or new traffic signs.

"You see the car to nothing and you know that's its not good. Its sick, it's devastating. Makes you not sleep at night and you know you don't know who it is, but you know it's someone's family," nearby resident Jamie Byrd said.

The wreck remains under investigation.
