Dog walker attacked in the Heights area

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Scary new video of an attack in the Heights area shows the importance of really paying attention to what's going on around you.

A dog walker was unlocking a door to let the dogs out, when a man came out of nowhere, went through the gate and latched on to her purse. A surveillance camera on 17th near Bevis recorded the frightening encounter.

The dog walker slammed slammed the door and briefly fought off the man. He ran away without anything and lost his hat in the process.l

The dog walker said she noticed the guy in a small white car with the passenger's window broken out before the incident, but didn't think he was planning to attack her.
