Classmates hope missing Katy teen found safe

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Just where is Adriana Coronado, the 13-year-old girl with a those dark rimmed glasses and a sweet smile? It's been four days since anyone's seen her, and there is still no new information.

"I think that's really scary, because she goes to the same school as me, so it could have happened to anyone there," said Rebeca Jovel, a senior at Mayde Creek High. "I think we should be more careful about everything that we do."

The Jovel family has two kids who attend Mayde Creek schools. As you can imagine, the story of Coronado, hits hauntingly close to home.

"I think it's tragic," says father Eric Jovel. "Can't imagine anything like that happening to anyone that we know."

On Monday, Walker County Sheriff Clint McRae made a huge plea to the public Monday. McRae asked for everyone, especially in the Houston area, to be on the lookout for 14-year-old Adriana Coronado.

He said her life might be in "grave danger" after her father, Caesar Coronado, was found killed in Walker County. Detectives suspect the young girl may have witnessed the murder.

"She certainly is in grave danger. We need the public's assistance. We want to confirm her whereabouts and welfare," said Sheriff McRae.

Deputies near the area where they found a pickup truck that may be connected to the killing of Caesar Coronado. The truck was located in Conroe.

A specialized team with the FBI which works on child abductions is in the area to assist in the investigation. As of Tuesday afternoon, there is no update from the federal agency.

Neither the Walker county location nor the Conroe area have any obvious ties to Katy, where Coronado and her father lived. In their quiet apartment complex, neighbors didn't know much about the family, and there were no outward signs that anything was wrong.

"It's pretty disturbing honestly, like one of your classmates is missing and their dad's deceased," said Justin McCarty, a senior at Mayde Creek. "I don't even know what to think about all that."
