Thieves break into restaurants, steal registers
Thieves broke into a Florida restaurant on Thanksgiving morning, making off with cash registers and $2,000.

LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL (KTRK) -- Authorities in south Florida are on the lookout for two men who spent their Thanksgiving breaking into a restaurant. They are seen on surveillance footage taking several cash registers, but they couldn't break the restaurant owner's spirit.

The men are seen walking up to World Famous restaurant just before 5am Thursday morning. They use a rock to break the glass, darting right for the cash registers, ripping them out and taking off.

"He must have been here before, probably a customer of mine," owner Chris Brown postulated to WSVN-TV.

After dumping the registers in their getaway car -- which was also caught on camera -- the thieves return for the remaining registers. Brown estimates that there was approximately $2,000 in cash in the registers at the time.

"This is the first time this has happened here. It's just tragic because it's just such a special day," he added.

Even with the mess inside his restaurant, Brown didn't let the burglars ruin his Thanksgiving -- he still went ahead with plans to distribute food to the poor that morning.

"Going out and giving back, it just brings a warmth. It isn't what you can make, or what you can take, it is what you guys can give. That is what really counts and makes things special," Brown said.
