HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston Police are investigating an unusual case in Midtown. Someone set fire to vehicles parked in public spaces.

Around 1:30am this morning, officers were called to Anita and Main. One man told police he was inside a bar while a possible arsonist was outside setting fire to his vehicle.

"I was at the 5th amendment. I came out here, my car was burnt up," Julius Woods said. "I've never had any problems with my car. Had it 2-3 years. Hopefully nobody intentionally did this, that's what I hope."

He wasn't the only victim. Investigators found several other cars destroyed by flames.

Officers nearby heard one of the cars explode and went running to find the cause. All of the vehicles suffered serious damage.

Firefighters are calling the fires suspicious. They say the vehicles were spaced very far apart. The case is under investigation.
