Boy, 8, drowns in Lake Conroe

LAKE CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- Authorities say an 8-year-old boy has died after falling off a dock into Lake Conroe.

It happened shortly after 2pm Sunday. The Conroe area family played along the lake at the Piney Shores Resort. Authorities tell us the 8-year-old left the shoreline, walked onto the deck and sat down at the end of the dock. He dipped his feet in the water and was playing when all of a sudden he fell in.

According to witnesses, the father ran over and pulled him out of the lake and seconds later the boy lost consciousness. The victim was then taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say this is roughly the fifth incident to happen at Lake Conroe this weekend alone.

"You need to know Lake Conroe. You need to know where you are at and where you are going there's still a large stump field up north. If you don't the area it could be very dangerous," said Lt. Tim Cade with the Montgomery County Precinct One Constable's Office.

The Montgomery County precinct 1 Constables office is investigating the drowning. They tell us they have no reason to believe there was any foul play involved, calling this just a tragic event.
