HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Authorities say a man with a gunshot wound was found outside a Valero gas station on Beechnut at Wilcrest in southwest Houston.

A witness told Eyewitness News that at about 4:30am a man drove up in a silver Chevrolet, screaming for help, saying someone shot him at the Coral Gables Apartment Complex across the street from the gas station. The victim then opened the door and fell to the ground, bleeding. Witnesses rushed in to help him out.

"He gave me the phone cause he couldn't handle it no more. And he was getting light headed. And he said he was getting light headed and he couldn't breathe. So, I got a shirt from his car and put pressure on it so he could breathe and told him to breathe deeply," said witness Angel Frayre.

The 33-year-old victim was conscious and told police a person pulled up on his passenger side and shot into the vehicle. Paramedics rushed him to Ben Taub Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He is listed in critical condition.

An investigating is ongoing. Anyone with any information is urged to call police at Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
