Local mother of Vegas shooting victim: "He loved life"
DICKINSON, Texas (KTRK) -- Cameron Robinson was 28 years old. He worked for the city of Las Vegas and had been with his soulmate Bobby for four years.
They were together at the ill-fated concert in Las Vegas when Bobby was injured. Cameron was killed.
"It was unreal and it's still unreal," said Meghan Ervin, Cameron's older sister. "I can't sleep. I don't know. I've lost a lot of people in my life and this has been the hardest. "
Vegas natives, Ervin and her mother, Trina Gray, now live in Dickinson. Cameron was last there in February.
"I'm the oldest but he was the wisest," said Ervin. "That's for sure."
Both women say they are numb. They can't watch news coverage and they won't say the killer's name. They don't care about his motive. They miss the man they say accepted everyone and lived life joyfully.
"He was the most accepting, kind person you'd ever meet because all he ever wanted in his life was to be accepted," said Gray. "He deserved so much more than this. He was supposed to conquer the world. "
Ervin was in Las Vegas last week, tending to Cameron's affairs and helping with his memorial service. Gray couldn't bring herself to go.
Amidst their grief and their shock, they choose to remember Cameron as he lived while coming to grips with how he and so many others died.
"You watch things on TV, like hurricanes, for example, or shootings, and you're like, 'Oh, man, my heart goes out to those people,'" said Ervin. "You never think it's going to happen to you. You don't think you're going to wake up and be like, I'm part of that one day."
In the midst of their pain and grief, they offered advice to anyone who learns of their story and they shared their condolences with the 57 other families who lost loved ones senselessly eight days ago.
"Just hold your loved ones close because you never know," said Ervin. "The fact that he was murdered and taken for selfish reasons along with so many other people," said Ervin. " All these other people have to suffer too and have this tragedy in their life. My heart breaks for every one of them."
