GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A former Dickinson football star died in the Pelican Island crane collapse in Galveston on Wednesday.

During his time at Dickinson High School, 20-year-old Blake Carlisle was considered a star on the field and an even better person off of it.

Head football coach John Snelson said the news has been especially hard following the town's destruction after Harvey.

"Especially when you're young, you don't want to think that you're going to pass. You're invincible. You're not really making the days count, you're counting down the days," said Snelson.

Blake had earned a full ride to SMU. He's been described as respectful, dedicated and loyal. He leaves behind an infant son.

Blake transferred to Independence Junior College and returned home when Harvey hit to work. He planned to go back to school.

Another man was also killed along with Blake in the crane collapse. OSHA is investigating the cause of the accident.
