HFD gets new high-water rescue vehicle ahead of Hurricane Harvey

Houston firefighters are prepared for water rescues with a new ride.

They just added a new water rescue vehicle to their fleet. It can transport 17 people including two crew members.

Plus, HFD said it's taking a different approach to the storm. The city is going to stage before the storm in areas known to flood so they can respond quicker.

"We've deployed resources to anticipated areas. We have a plan to establish area commands, resources and firefighters and trucks and so forth in areas that we anticipate we may need them ahead of time," said Chief Sam Pena of the Houston Fire Department.

This new vehicle brings the number of the high water rescue vehicles owned by the city to six.
