Two people are dead after a driver drove the wrong way on a road in northwest Harris County

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Two people were killed in a wrong way crash early this morning in northwest Harris County.

Two SUVs slammed into each other on Eldridge near FM 529 around 2:30am.

Deputies are still on scene investigating and cleaning up the damage.

Eyewitness News has learned both drivers are dead - the only people in the vehicles involved.

In the Range Rover, a 47-year-old woman was in the right lane. She died at the scene.

The driver in the Ford Explorer was a 38-year-old man. He was flown to the hospital where he also died. Police say he was the one driving the wrong way - eastbound in a westbound lane.

We asked if alcohol played a role in the crash. Deputies said they could not comment.

However, Deputy Troyer "I believe the speed limit up here is about 50 miles per hour so combining that kind of speed, we're going to get some pretty good damage."
