Family wants justice after murder of teen
A family wants justice after murder of a pregnant teen was killed last month.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man charged with capital murder in the shooting death of his 19-year-old pregnant ex-girlfriend is due to be arraigned Tuesday.

Jefree Burks is accused of shooting Amber Flores to death on Van Fleet Street in late February.

Court documents allege Burks was seen hanging out of an SUV shooting at the car Flores and her boyfriend were in. The car continued on hitting a tree before coming to a stop. Her boyfriend Dejaven Pratt survived but was critically injured.

Marci Mendez is Flores' aunt but at just 10 years older, she said they were more like sisters.

"She was a 19-year-old just finding her way in life, excited about becoming a new mom," Mendez said.

Investigators allege Burks knew Flores was pregnant at the time of the shooting.

Mendez said Flores was four months into her pregnancy and already had baby names chosen.

"We found out the gender, unfortunately, when she passed. So, she was going to have a boy and she was going to name him Noah," she said.

Now, the family's focus is on justice. Burks is set to be arraigned Tuesday.

"She will always live on through us," Mendez said.

Investigators believe others are involved in the case, possibly in the vehicle with Burks as he allegedly shot.

The family is asking anyone with information about the case to contact Crimestoppers.
