Woman charged with leaving 1-year-old with another child

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A local woman has been charged with abandoning two children after they were found unsupervised inside a room at The Champions Lodge in Harris County.

According to an arrest affidavit, 23-year-old Shaniquea Smith left a 1-year-old child in the care of an 8-year-old child.

The two children were left without food.

Investigators also found a large butcher knife in the open and accessible to the children.

Smith was held on a $5,000 bond.
