A DPS trooper shoots suspect who tased him in the face.

A DPS trooper shot a suspect who had shocked the trooper in the face with the officer's own stun gun, officials confirmed.

At about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, the trooper attempted a traffic stop along FM 521 near Country Road 54. It turned out that the driver, who was reportedly speeding, also had an open warrant for resisting arrest.

Official update on trooper involved shooting in Brazoria County


The trooper took the man into custody, but authorities say the suspect tried to flee a short time later and a struggle ensued.

"According to preliminary investigation, the suspect gained possession of the trooper's Taser and discharged it, striking the trooper in the face," said Lt. Craig Cummings with the Texas Department of Public Safety. "The trooper then discharged his firearm, striking the suspect."

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was taken to UTMB Angleton Hospital in serious condition. The trooper was treated at the scene for his injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
