Stray horse hits and damages car in northeast Houston, Jessica Willey reports.

A freak crash involving a horse has a woman warning other drivers about the potential hazard.

"I actually saw the horse's whole face in front of me," said Kerrell Comeaux. "It was very frightening, very frightening. I could not believe it. I was so afraid."

It was a startling start to her morning last Monday. Comeaux, a school teacher, had her 6-year-old granddaughter in the car. They were on Homestead near Parker in northeast Houston when they were involved in the most unexpected of crashes.

"All of a sudden out of nowhere, four horses came running at me, and one of them just hit my vehicle and rolled over the top," described Comeaux, who filed a report with Houston police.

As fast as they were there, they were gone, she says.

The one that hit her car, smashed the windshield, left dents and $6,000 in damage. It is not uncommon to see people riding horses in northeast Houston, but Comeaux says this is the first time she's seen horses on the loose.

That day, Comeaux was alerted to a Facebook post saying someone had found an injured horse and was on the hunt for its owner.

Comeaux says it's the same horse. She would also like to know its fate.

She and her granddaughter weren't hurt and hopes what happened doesn't happen again.

"A loss of a horse is sad. A loss of a life is even sadder," she added.
