CONROE, TX (KTRK) --Six students were mistakenly put on a bus instead of the car rider line at Sam Houston Elementary School Monday afternoon.
The snafu left parents searching for answers.
"I was going crazy because, you know, a four year old, they don't know nothing," explained mom Sara Orellana.
The students were dropped off at an apartment complex about two miles from the school.
Rosemary Reyna found them and called Conroe ISD immediately.
"They were scared," Reyna explained. "One of them was crying."
Staff will be retrained on dismissal procedures, the district said.
Full statement from Conroe ISD:
On Monday, six students at Sam Houston Elementary were mistakenly put on a bus at dismissal instead of being taken to the car rider line. As soon as the error was discovered, the campus reviewed the log of the students scanned onto the buses at dismissal and located the route on which the children were placed. Campus administrators then worked with the CISD Transportation Department to ensure the safety of the students and reunite them with their families. As a result of this incident, dismissal procedures and processes at the campus have been reviewed and revised. Staff are being retrained to ensure clarity on all aspects of the dismissal procedures including the roles and locations of individuals on duty and the purpose of each component of the system. The safety of all CISD students is of the utmost importance.
