HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Martial arts is a method of self-defense, but one Houston man is using the art of Jiu Jitsu as therapy.

Maximiliano Ulloa-York started training in Jiu Jitsu in 2009. Three years later, he became paralyzed after falling from a 2-story building. He doesn't have the use of his abdomen, lower back or legs.

Max says he's not wasting time feeling sorry for himself. He quickly started trying to get back to active lifestyle he had before the accident.

Max says since training he has grown stronger and his confidence level had improved. Now, he wants others to learn from his journey through self-defense.

Max helps others with disabilities learn the confidence and life lessons he's learned. His website Without Limitations is designed to motivate others to see outside their so called disability.
