ROSENBERG, TX (KTRK) -- Police are searching for a sex offender who is now a person of interest in the murder and arson investigation involving the death of a 32-year-old woman earlier this month.

Nancy Dean was found dead inside of her Rosenberg home after it caught fire on September 3. At the time, police called the fire suspicious.

Cause of death remains a mystery in Rosenberg fire

The Rosenberg Police Department says they're looking for Valentine Gonzalez Jr., 51, a convicted felon and sex offender who's required to register for life. Gonzalez, police say, failed to comply with the sex offender requirements and has absconded.

In 1989, Valentine Gonzalez Jr. was convicted of aggravated sexual assault in Nueces County, where he was sentenced to 27 years in prison.

Gonzalez's last known location was along the I-35 corridor in the New Braunfels area.

A warrant is out for Gonzalez's arrest for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.
