Widow has Labor Day message
The widow of a Pearland police officer has a message for this Labor Day weekend

HOUSTON -- Don't drink and drive -- that is the simple, but heartfelt message a Pearland police officer's widow has for all of us.

Today, the wife of Endy Ekpanya made that plea as we approach the Labor Day Weekend.

Lucy Ekpnaya said, "My life is broken, my life is completely shattered."

Lucy lost her husband Endy in June when his Pearland police cruiser hit a drunk driver.

As we approach Labor Day, Lucy wants to share her story so others will think before drinking and driving.

She said, "Endy was directly taken away from me because of somebody's reckless actions because someone did not think to put the lives of others as a point of importance."

Law enforcement will be holding a no-refusal weekend in an effort to curb drunk driving.

Mark Rodriguez said, "Our daughter was killed February 11, 2010, (it) did not need to happen."

Rodriguez's daughter Krysta was killed by a drunk driver. He too wants people to think before driving impaired.

He said, "Until you have to bury your loved due to sheer ignorance, you are not going to understand."

Last Labor Day, 250 people were arrested during the no-refusal weekend. It runs this year from Friday to Monday.
