Mother wrestles mountain lion off 5-year-old son

A mountain lion attack in Colorado has neighbors concerned for their safety (KTRK)

A woman helped save her 5-year-old son by fighting off a mountain lion that pounced on top of the boy.

Those terrifying moments happened in Colorado as her two sons were playing at some riverside condominiums.

State wildlife officials say a mountain lion that wandered onto the campus of John F. Kennedy High School in Granada Hills has been tranquilized and will be returned to its habitat.

Neighbors say they heard the mother scream after the mountain lion attacked the boy.

The mother jumped on top of the lion and fought off the wild animal. Her son was rushed to the hospital by his father, and is expected to survive.

A photographer captured a rare glimpse of some playful mountain lions in their natural habitat in the Angeles National Forest.

The boy had injuries to his face, head and neck.

Wildlife officials captured and killed two mountain lions yards away from the attack scene.

P-22, Southern California's most famous mountain lion, is believed to have killed a koala at the Los Angeles Zoo.

Matt Robbins with Colorado Parks and Wildlife says the two animals were seen just prior to the attack.
