Body of man who tried to rescue swimmer found in San Luis Pass

GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- Officials say family members have found the body of a man swept out to sea in San Luis Pass, near Galveston.

Officials say 37-year-old Stephen Espedal was attempting to rescue a woman in the water on Sunday evening. While the woman and others attempting to rescue her were eventually able to make it back to shore, Espedal was swept out to sea.

Family members found Espedal around 8am near where he went missing.

Coast Guard crews searched throughout the night with other responders, but were unable to locate him.
