Do not drink and drive.

While that is the message everyday of the year, it's especially true this weekend. Memorial Day is a no refusal weekend, and officers are gearing up.

The last couple of weeks have been deadly ones for Houston drivers with families being killed by drunk drivers. This weekend law enforcement is cracking down.

The Memorial Day weekend will see crowded roads and unfortunately some of those drivers will be impaired.

So again this year DPS and local law enforcement from every agency in our area will be on the look out for drunk drivers and with good reason.

Last year at this time, DPS troopers arrested 270 drunk drivers, and issued more than 3,700 speeding tickets.

It was five years ago at this time that an HPD officer was killed by a drunk driver during the line of duty.

The vehicle involved in the death of Officer Kevin Wills will be on display during an announcement for DUI awareness later today.

This year troopers, local police and sheriff's deputies will be back on the roads in force.

So do yourself and everyone else a favor by getting a designated driver or taking a cab home if you choose drink this weekend.

Remember this is a no refusal weekend, which means if you refuse a field sobriety test, a judge is on stand by to issue a warrant for a blood sample from suspected drunk drivers.

The best advice, do not drink and drive.
