Reactions mixed to Texas Supreme Court ruling on school finance

(HISD)

Hundreds of school districts in Texas which filed a lawsuit challenging Texas' public school finance system saw their case rejected by the Texas Supreme Court on Friday.

The Texas Supreme Court upheld Texas's public school finance system, asserting that, despite its weaknesses, it meets minimum constitutional standards for providing equitable public education.

"This is a sad day for Texas and for the future of our great state. The economic prosperity of Texas in the coming years is tied directly to the quality of our public schools," said Executive Director James Crow of the Texas Association of School Boards.

"But today's unexpected and troubling ruling by the Texas Supreme Court jeopardizes that future success. Our schools must be adequately and equitably funded to meet the high standards that all Texans have for them."
