TSU couple graduates with master's degrees

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- When Amber and Leo Newman walk across the stage tomorrow at Texas Southern University, the couple will have reached yet another milestone in their marriage: They are both set to graduate with a master's degree in public administration.

"We decided to do it together, and so it wasn't easy. We have a family. Balancing home life and student life was a difficult task, but we made it work," said Amber Newman.

"Just stick with it. Believe in yourself. Stay true to yourself. You can accomplish anything."

You can add graduate level degrees to the duo's already long list of accomplishments. They've raised three children, taught at area Houston schools and worked for the Department of Defense overseas in war-torn countries.

"One of the things is that you have to push through it because a lot of times, you want to give up," said Leo Newman. "You have to keep on going. You're not just doing it for yourself. You're doing it for your family."
