An officer was attacked by a number of people in an arrest attempt in Tennessee

NASHVILLE, TN (KTRK) -- Nashville police are searching for a man accused of kicking a police officer in a wild attack while he tried to arrest a man in a crowd.

The attack happened when Nashville Metropolitan Police Officer Matthew Cammarn was trying to arrest Brian Shannon, who police allege was attacking a woman.

However, before he could cuff Shannon, they dropped to the ground and exchanged punches.

During the scuffle, multiple bystanders kicked the officer in his head and ribs. One bystander tries to pull him off Shannon.

Eventually the suspect ran away. But, though dazed and injured, Cammarn chased him down and he was arrested.

Cammarn was checked out for his injuries. Police tell local station WKRN they're proud of how Cammarn handled himself and say more arrests are possible.
