Thousands demand guns at Republican National Convention

CLEVELAND, OH (KTRK) -- Thousands of people are petitioning for the right to carry guns into the Republican National Convention this summer.

The convention will be held in Cleveland, Ohio in July.

An online petition is gaining traction on Change.org, with more than 22,600 signatures collected as of Saturday afternoon.

It is unclear whether the petition is meant to put the GOP in an awkward position, USA Today reports.

The Akron Beacon Journal says the Ohio Republican Party was not aware of the petition when asked.

The RNC's host committee overseeing the convention was also reportedly unaware of the petition.
