Many home owners opt to forgo flood insurance because they may not feel they really need it. But experts says keep these numbers when thinking about it.

According to floodsmart.gov, just six-inches of water in a 1000 square foot home is estimated to cost you $20,150 in damage. We are talking big money to fix your floors, replace furniture and those big appliances.

For a 2000 square foot home, the price jumps to just under $40,000. Also, don't forget about the cleanup and the time and money spent finding somewhere to stay while repairs are done.
