A mother was reunited with her babies after they were taken with car in southeast Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston mother faced some terrifying moments after her car was stolen from a southeast Houston gas station with her baby twins inside.

It happened in southeast Houston at MLK near Salinsky Road around 1am.

The woman's 4-month-old twins were in the back seat. She left the car running and went inside, when she came back out, the car and the kids were gone.

Watch Jeff Ehling's report on the situation:

HPD's Larry Crowson said, "While she was out of the car, three males three males jumped into the car and took the car."

Houston Police then started an extensive search, even calling in the HPD helicopter.

Then, 45 minutes later, a patrol officer heard something unusual about a half-mile from the gas station.

Crowson said, "Had the window down, heard a child crying, looked under some bushes next to a street light, located the two children in car seats by the side of the road."

The mother was eventually reunited with her children. They did appear to be OK. They were checked out by the fire department.

The car is still missing and police are looking to see if this was connected to an early robbery by three men in the same area.
