Worker fatally hit by dump truck in construction zone on Highway 290

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police say a worker has been fatally struck by a dump truck in a construction zone on Highway 290 in northwest Houston.

The accident happened at about 1pm Tuesday in the 12500 block of the Northwest Freeway.

Houston police say the victim was a 26-year-old project engineer who was walking behind the truck when it backed over him. Officers say he had only been on the job for two days.

Police are investigating, but consider this to be a tragic accident. No charges are expected. The victim's identity has not been released.
