Home invasion victim stabbed during apparent attempted sexual assault

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police are on the scene of a home invasion in west Houston in which a woman was stabbed during an apparent attempted sexual assault.

It happened at Mayfield near Shadowdale.

Someone broke into the house around dawn. Police tell us the suspect came into the house by breaking through a back sliding glass door and apparently the suspect then tried to sexually assault the woman who lives in the home. In the process she was stabbed.

However, the woman still managed to fight off the attacker and get out of the house. The suspect then ran off.

The victim's husband then came to the home and the woman was taken to the hospital. She is expected to recover.

We are told there is surveillance video of the intruder and it is possible the victim knows who the suspect is, so at this point police do have a good idea of who they are looking for.
