HOUSTON -- A father is locked up without bond, accused of beating his eight-week-old son to death.

Jorge Quiroz, 36, of Houston, faced a judge today on charges of injury to a child.

Investigators say back in October, Quiroz hit his son, Jorge Jr., in the head, and the newborn later died.

Doctors told police the baby had several rib fractures and a broken arm that was healing, court records show.

Quiroz was the primary caregiver because investigators say the baby was born with cocaine and marijuana in his system.

Court records show Quiroz was previously convicted of home burglary and aggravated assault.
