HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The threat of freezing weather is just another challenge for homeowners still rebuilding from Hurricane Harvey.

Four months later, the Andersons are closer to returning to their home in the Kashmere Gardens neighborhood after it was damaged in Harvey.

Homeowner Danny Anderson has been preparing his home to withstand the cold weather.

"We're doing everything we can to prep it for the freezing weather," Anderson said.

Some of the preparations have included weather-proofing pipes.

On Saturday, church was held for the first time since Harvey at Canaan Baptist Church.

"We've seen a lot of displacement, it's so heartbreaking and just to give a positive vibe to these people means everything to me," Shamika Ferguson said.

Those in the area hope that the new year will be a lot kinder than 2017.
