When using her cell phone's camera to capture a priceless moment of her daughter parasailing with her father, Tomball resident Tina Roquemore never thought the whole world would one day see it.
Making an impetuous decision Roquemore submitted the photo of her daughter Martha, who has Down's syndrome, to the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) for the 2014 Times Square Video Presentation contest. Every year the NDSS shows the world a special video presentation of people with Down's syndrome on a jumbo screen in Times Square.
"I just sent it (photo) out of the blue because I thought this is one the greatest pictures of she and her dad, it is an absolute pure joy," said Roquemore. "The fact that they chose that picture reflects that individuals with Down syndrome can do quite a bit more."
According to Roquemore, the NDSS receives more than 2000 photo submissions for the contest. When learning her submission was one of the photos chosen, Roquemore said she was shocked. On September 21, Martha's photo will be featured in a video presentation on the Jumbotron in Times Square in New York, honoring Down syndrome and the NYC Buddy Walk.
