ROSHARON, TX (KTRK) -- Houston Mayor Annise Parker started 2015 by leaping out of a plane.
Mayor Parker, joined by a bunch of brave staffers, went skydiving at Skydive Spaceland near Rosharon Sunday morning. For Mayor Parker, it was her first time jumping out of a plane.
"Honestly, this wasn't on my bucket list," said Mayor Parker after the jump. "My staff had been planning this for awhile and my original intention was to simply be on hand to support them. As their team leader, though, I couldn't just stand by and watch.
Mayor Parker jumped from 14,000 feet, which is around 2.6 miles in the air. There was an 8,000-foot free fall at 120 miles per hour before the chute was pulled and she glided to the safe landing.
She jumped tandem with the assistance of instructor Henry Prewitt.
When asked what was the best part of the jump, Mayor Parker said, "being back on the ground."
