HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston-area health care center announced Tuesday it is shutting its doors for good.

The Spring Branch Health Care Center at 8955 Longpoint will be closing, leaving employees without jobs and patients without care. The facility's officials issued the following statement:

"We are currently in the process of notifying residents and families, so it is premature for us to give too much detail until we have had a chance to make those notifications. The facility is being closed as the landlord has made the decision to sell the property to a third party. As part of the closure process, we will hold meetings in the next several weeks to answer questions from families and residents. We will also meet with each resident and his or her family to discuss relocation options.

"We thank our staff for their loyalty and commitment throughout this process and we thank the community for its support for the many years we for which we have had the privilege to serve its residents."

The center was opened in 2004 by a group of community leaders who wanted to reduce health care costs in the area, according to its website.
