GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Four children are receiving medical care at Shriners Hospital in Galveston following a horrific fire in Guatemala. Their injures were described as critical.

Hospital staff flew the children to the United States yesterday. Dr. Jong Lee oversees the Intensive Burn Care Unit. He made the more than 1,000-mile journey to help save the children.

"Any place in the world even if it was in the U.S. One hospital even two hospitals wouldn't be able to handle that number of patients," said Dr. Lee. "There were a lot of severe burns."

Shriners Hospital is known worldwide for their care of burn victims. They offer services to children regardless of their families' ability to pay.
